Bark Dog Why

***

If you have problems with a dog that barks excessively, you need to find out why the dog barks so much. There are some reasons that cause dogs to bark a lot and one of them is that the owner has unconsciously trained them to do so. If you always respond to your dogs barking by talking to it or giving it treats, the dog has learned to bark to get your attention. When you are not home during the day, the dog may continue barking to get you to respond and cause the neighbors to complain about the noise. If you ignore the dog when you are at home and it starts to bark, it will eventually realize that the barking is not going to work. However, this could be a long and noisy process.

You could start to find out what stimuli trigger the dogs bark. For example, why does the dog bark when the lights are turned out? It is possible that the dog is afraid of the dark and the simple process of leaving on a light will stop the barking. Maybe the dog needs some exercise or toys to play with. A very simple solution is to take the dog for vigorous exercise on a schedule and have plenty of toys that the dog can chew and toss around for entertainment. Dogs get bored too.

It is possible that the dog is alerting you when someone comes to the door or passes close to the door. If you train the dog to stop after two or three barks by responding to a command such as “no” or “quiet”, life can become quite peaceful. You may be able to train the dog by praising it or giving it treats or you may have to bring it to obedience classes.
