Barking Behavior Dog
***
When you want to change the barking behavior
of your dog, you should first try to find out what is causing the
excessive barking. Barking is normal behavior for a dog, just as children
shout when they play or become excited, but continuous barking is a sign
that the dog has a problem that needs to be addressed. You have to take
note of when the dog barks for long periods and look for things that might
be triggering this response in the dog. You might need to ask neighbor’s
to help out if the braking occurs when you are not at home by asking them
to see if they can determine a cause.
The barking behavior in a dog could be caused by separation anxiety if the
excessive barking occurs when you are not at home. Having the dog’s toys
within easy reach will help to keep the dog occupied and cut down on the
barking episodes. You should make sure that you walk the dog regularly and
once the dog gets used to this routine, it will learn to get used to you
being gone and expect the walk when you return. You may need to teach the
dog’s commands that let it know that you will return or you may need to
take obedience classes with the dog to learn how to control the barking.
You should also keep the dog inside when you are not around to supervise
its behavior.
Barking behavior in a dog may be its way of protecting its territory. If
this is the case and the dog barks at each person who passes in front of
your house, you need to expose the dog to people and when it barks at
people, give the command to be quiet after two or three barks. When the
dog stops barking, you need to praise the dog and even give it a treat.
