Barking Dog Prevent
***
There are techniques you can use with a
barking dog to prevent it from barking excessively. You can try the
various techniques for dealing with some of the reasons that dogs bark.
Some of these include:
• Dealing with separation anxiety or boredom. Have plenty of toys
available that the dog can play with when you are not around. Make sure
that you take the dog for walks and give it plenty of exercise.
• Dealing with territorial barking. Teach the dog a “Quiet” command to
stop the barking after two or three barks. Try to eliminate the things
that trigger the barking. Don’t encourage the dog to bark at people or
objects. Have the dog neutered.
• Dealing with barking at loud noises. Loud noises startle dogs and the
first reaction is to bark. You can help stop this by trying to keep the
dog away from occasions when loud noises may occur on a frequent basis.
If these measures of dealing with the barking dog do not prevent excessive
barking, you may have to resort to using bark collars. There are several
varieties that use high frequency sounds, shocks or sprays to stop the dog
from barking. Some of these can be installed in the backyard to prevent
any barking within 25 feet of the device or you can use a hand held remote
that you activate when the dog begins to bark. These devices help to train
the dog when it should or should not bark for a long period of time.
It is possible that the devices for barking dogs to prevent excessive
barking can also be quite sensitive to other noises resulting in the dog
getting a shock or getting sprayed when it doesn’t bark. This defeats the
purpose of the bark collar.
