Barking Dog Silencer

***

It is not realistic to expect a barking dog silencer to stop barking all together. It will help to stop a dog from barking excessively and is not necessary of you dog only barks for short periods of time, such as two or three times to alert you that the doorbell is ringing. If the dog continues to bark even after you have answered the door, you do need to train the dog to stop barking.

There are several different types of barking dog silencers that are available to dog owners. The treatment you choose depends on the reasons that the dog barks excessively. First you have to look at the dog’s environment to see if there is anything there that might be setting off the barking episodes. Some dogs are afraid of everything and when you are not around they bark to try to protect themselves. Keeping the dog indoors at night might be an alternative that silences the dog’s night time barking and lets you and the neighbors enjoy a good night’s sleep. If the dog barks during the day when you are not around, you can have lots of toys around to keep it company or even a tape recording of your voice.

A barking dog silencer is also available in a collar that the dog wears. Some of these collars spray the dog with water or citronella when it barks and these are the most effective and humane for training. There are also collars that emit a high pitched sound to stop the dog from barking and there are collars that shock the dog into silence. It is up to you which one you choose to have when you want to train your dog to bark in appropriate circumstances.
