Before you start a process of barking
controlling with your dog, you do need to know why the dog baks so much.
Since dogs cannot talk, the bark is the only means of communicating with
humans and probably other dogs. Some dogs bark because they are bored, or
scared or uncomfortable. It is natural for dogs to bark, but excessive
barking can drive both you and your neighbors crazy. You may even get
complaints from the city or town council about the dogs high amount of
barking.
It will take time to control the dogs barking, so you have to be patient.
The first thing is to make sure that the dog has plenty of food and water
within easy reach. You know that the dog is not barking because it is
hungry or thirsty.
If the dog wants you to play, an idea would be to have
some toys, especially chewing toys that will keep the dog occupied. When a
dog is contented it doesnt usually bark a lot.
It is possible that you do not need an elaborate plan for barking
controlling if the dog barks to control its territory. If the dog barks
when visitor come to the door or when the doorbell rings, this is
perfectly natural reaction and it is more of an alarm bark to let you know
that there are intruders. In order to control this type of barking, you
could keep the dog away from things that trigger the barking episodes. You
can train the dog to only bark for three or four times and respond to your
command of Quiet after that. You do need to have the dog alarm you when
someone does come to the door because it may be an unwanted intruder
trying to break into your home. This is why it is important to understand
the reasons why the dog barks.
